This is a nice surprise. If you don't have your own laptop, you're not lost yet. You might get one for free from the university. Of course you need to give it back after the academic year. You also need to give a financial guaranty for it. Still if you need it - go for it.
This is not always available. Sometimes you have to ask for it. Sometimes they answer no. But for my group they've exceptionally answered yes to everyone who needed it. Then, I've seen some people around using gear with university stickers.
Anyhow don't expect a Macbook Pro. What I've seen are quite old Dells. Still it's good for a browser and typewriter.
The financial guaranty is a check. It will be cashed if you don't give the machine back (or you break it).
Though...
lRem on Thu, 10/08/2009 - 08:18I've seen some pretty recent Dell machines with Polytech stickers today. My friends got some machines packed with the early Intel Core processors and 2GB of ram. Apparently your mileage may vary.
